The Sixth Xiangya Melanoma Forum (2019) is Held in Changsha
The Xiangya International Melanoma Research Union is established, nine international top scientists are appointed as visiting professors at Xiangya Hospital.
On June 15, the Sixth Xiangya Melanoma Forum hosted by the Dermatology Committee of Hunan Medical Association, Center for Skin Cancer of Chinese Society of Dermatology, Skin Cancer Sub-Committee of Chinese Dermatologist Association organized by Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Key Lab. of Skin Cancer Psoriasis of Hunan Province, Hunan Provincial Center for Skin Health Disease Engineering Research. Scholars of melanoma research from countries including the USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea more than 100 participating delegates gathered in Changsha to conduct an academic exchange discussion over the foundation, the translation of melanoma as well as the frontier much-talked-about issues of its research present an academic event to participants.
Xiangya International Melanoma Research Union is Established
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Chen Xiang, Vice President of Central South University Chairman of the Forum, Prof. Zhang Xin, Party Secretary of Xiangya Hospital delivered a welcome speech presented the letters of appointment of visiting professor to nine internationally top scientists: Prof. Ruth Halaban, Director of Specimen Resource Core of Yale School of Medicine the winner of the Swebilius Cancer Research Award, the Ruth Estrin Memorial for Cancer Research, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society for Melanoma Research; Prof. Martin McMahon, Chief Scientist of Cancer Biology of Department of Dermatology of Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah; Prof. Richard Scholyer, Co-Medical Director of Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) Prof. Geogina Long of MI; Prof. Marcus Bosenberg, Co-Director of the Yale SPORE in Skin Cancer; Prof. Michele W. L. Teng, Director of head of the Cancer Immunoregulation Immunotherapy Laboratory at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia; Prof. Sook Jung Yun, Academic Director At Korean Society Of Skin Cancer; Prof. Naoya Yamazaki, Chief of the Department of Dermatologic Oncology, National Cancer Center Hospital; Prof. Atsushi Otsuka, expert of Kyoto University. The two leaders also announced the establishment of Xiangya International Melanoma Research Union. The union joins hands with nearly 50 domestic overseas clinical research institutes that extremely influential in the field of melanoma research, aims to enhance international academic cooperation exchange, push forward the talent development in the field further increase the international influence of the melanoma research team of Xiangya Hospital. In addition, Prof. Hong Mingqi, Fellow of Academia Sinica President of China Medical University, Taiwan; Prof. Cui Rutao, Director of Dana Farber Cancer Institute; Prof. Xu Xiaowei, expert from University of Pennsylvania; a number of professors from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Sichuan University, Sun Yat-sen University attended the opening ceremony made speeches.
The forum had three parts: basic, translational clinical researches of melanoma. In particular, it carried out an in-depth exchange over the molecular mechanism of melanoma development, the research development of new targeted drugs of melanoma, the clinical application the latest progress of melanoma immunotherapy represented by the PD-1/PD-L1, etc. Two professors from the Yale University elaborated the latest research progress of melanoma genomics, translational omics, immunotherapy. A professor from Melanoma Institute Australia introduced the history of systematic melanoma treatment the direction of its future development. Professors from Japan South Korea gave presentations about their teams" new research results in the clinical pathological classification, genetic phenotype, immunotherapy strategy of melanoma. Prof. Chen Xiang, Associate Prof. Li Juan of Xiangya Hospital gave a presentation about the achievements of the dermatology team of Xiangya Hospital in the medical big data biospecimen, the MDT team building, the establishment of dermatology network hospitals, the basic research represented by the CD147, the melanoma treatment dilemma the clinical treatment strategy in China.
With riveting content the focus on the frontier, the forum was a well-deserved event of the collision fusion between science thoughts, humanities medical sciences. As an informative academic event, it was positively responded acclaimed by its participants. The establishment of the Xiangya International Melanoma Research Union created a platform for domestic overseas scholars to jointly promote the basic research translation of melanoma. The forum facilitated the academic exchange on melanoma in China, the development of China in this field persistently improved the overall strength of the Dermatology Department of Xiangya Hospital its domestic international influence.
